EVA SOBESKY

Eva I. Sobesky was born in Czechoslovakia and raised in Germany.  Eva’s formal education began in Germany at the Technical University of Aachen.  Upon graduating she moved to the United States and received her Master’s Degree in Architecture from the prestigious Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc).

Her formative period as a designer was honed at Frank O. Gehry’s office.  With Gehry’s office she occupied a lead role in the design and execution of seminal buildings such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, “Dancing House” (Prague), Guggenheim Bilbao, DG Bank, and the Uestra Tower.  In 2015, models from her contributions to these projects have been exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).

In 2002 Eva founded her own design practice, EIS Studio, in Venice, California.  The studio is comprehensive in nature, designing not only buildings, interiors, and furniture, but also the landscapes the buildings occupy.  In 2005, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) designated one of Eva’s residences the best of four in the Pacific Palisades/Brentwood area of Los Angeles.

From the start, Eva has crafted a career around making the client an active participant in the design process.  Through extensive use of 3d digital and physical modeling, both architect and client are able to collaborate in realizing each project’s goals and aspirations.  This method results in buildings that celebrate the unique mild climate of Southern California.  Eva’s residences are comfortable in size and proportion, allow for a dynamic play of natural light, and possess strong indoor/outdoor connections to the surrounding landscape.

As a designer and artist, Eva has incorporated her background as a sculptor to create a fun and sophisticated furniture line called “Pebbles.”  Pebbles are distinctly sculptural, gently curving seating elements that take their inspiration from actual pebbles found in nature.  Available in a variety of materials and colors, Pebbles have found homes throughout the world from Dubai to the Hamptons, Frankfurt to Aspen.

Eva continues to provide clients in Southern California with comprehensive design services.  In each project her studio strives to maximize the joy of well-designed spaces and landscapes for clients.  EIS Studio’s success is measured through expanding word of mouth referrals and the enduring value each project creates.
